Solving the Problem

Selected Opportunity: Automotive Self Driving Cars
I think there is a growing market for my opportunity with the current market. There has been a want for self driving cars since I started school 15 years ago. Self driving cars are cars that are able to drive around without a person in control of the vehicle. The idea of self driving cars is to lower human error with cars. Cars as is are very technologically advanced and are just as capable if not better than driving than humans. People have distractions such as cell phones, the radio, and other passengers in the car which limits the drivers responsiveness to what is going on around them. I think a market for a self driving car would be a great idea and as it grows more companies will buy into it. From people who text or drinking and driving as the leading causes of death from driving, having these self driving cars would limit these leading causes of accidents.

  1. I agree that self-driving cars could be a very useful investment in terms of safety (once the market gets passed the silly - considering our current reliance on technology - fear of passing our safety over to the complete control of a machine). The only doubt I have is that this is a complex technology that will take many years to reach the mass market, and so the opportunity seems hard to exploit.

  2. Daryl,
I think that the autonomous vehicle market is rapidly growing and will start being used by all major car manufacturers probably before we know it. My only concern is the media behind self-driving cars. They are pushing this agenda that these cars are unresponsive to conditions and dangerous. However, it could not be more distant from the truth. I remember an article not long ago about the first accident that the Google car got into. The media hyped it up, when in reality the accident happened with a right of way issue where a bus did not allow a merge. It also was only going 15 mph, and the driver left without injury. In reality, if they reported on every accident that happens daily, we would be terrified to drive cars. As for the feasibility, it would be incredibly difficult to enter the car market now. Not only do the current corporations have a lock on the market, but the amount of financial backing needed to manufacture a car at a great enough level would be extraordinarily high.
