I honestly found that the idea napkin very
helpful. Every time I met people they had different ideas on what I could add
to the car. Finally putting it on the napkin made me realize that I might be providing
too much or if what I am providing is even wanted. Throughout this activity I
had to differ what I truly wanted representing my product to make it a must
have for customers.

Solving the Problem
Selected Opportunity: Automotive Self Driving Cars
I think there is a growing market for my opportunity with the current market. There has been a want for self driving cars since I started school 15 years ago. Self driving cars are cars that are able to drive around without a person in control of the vehicle. The idea of self driving cars is to lower human error with cars. Cars as is are very technologically advanced and are just as capable if not better than driving than humans. People have distractions such as cell phones, the radio, and other passengers in the car which limits the drivers responsiveness to what is going on around them. I think a market for a self driving car would be a great idea and as it grows more companies will buy into it. From people who text or drinking and driving as the leading causes of death from driving, having these self driving cars would limit these leading causes of accidents.Testing the Hypothesis
1)People who are able to drive or need a ride somewhere are wanting automotive self driving cars so that they can make better use of their time and ride around feeling more safe ultimately putting their lives in the hands of the car.
2) Who: People able to drive and have a valid driver's license currently unsuspended.
What: There is not a car that is fully responsive yet. Some fail when it comes to technical issues while others fail to not crash. These are both very important factures.
Why: Due to technological issues making the cars not responsible enough to protect the life within it.
People who are able to drive or have a need to go somewhere in a self driving car but do not yet feel safe enough to ride in a car that has been technically approved to protect their lives while riding inside.
3)Testing the who: If uber and lyft got self driving cars then the audience would be anyone who person needing a ride somewhere.
Testing the what: Since there is not a current market for self driving cars each company has something lacking them to allow their car brand to be sold. This only includes the cars excessive to the people.
Testing the why: Some people do not trust the cars currently being produced. The idea that someone has to trust a car with their life is frightening to some.
4) Interview 1:
Do you see a need for a self driving car?
No, we are fully capable and should not trust technologically. It encourages laziness and we need to be productive as humans.
Would you trust a self driving car?
No, because it is unpredictable and would not rely on it because it is scary.
What are your worries about a self driving car?
Any malfunctions of the computer system.
Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
Yes I would prefer driving but if I did get a self driving car I would not miss driving to much but would miss it a little.
Interview 2:
Do you see a need for a self driving car?
Yes, as technology advances so should we. Everyone relies on technology already.
Would you trust a self driving car?
Yes I would trust it to brake and speed up but there is still room for human error.
What are your worries about a self driving car?
Getting used to not being in control of the car.
Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
I would miss driving a lot I would fall asleep.
Interview 3:
Do you see a need for a self driving car?
Yes, in this day and age we are very busy and we do not have enough time to get things done throughout the day. If the car did the driving the the person inside can utilize their time on something else more important.
Would you trust a self driving car?
As more technological advanced the cars get the more I would trust them. If the new norm was to have self driving cars then it would be a lot safer.
What are you worries about a self driving car?
I feel a lot safer with self driving cars. Humans make errors more often than computers due. Having self driving cars would promote safer driving and control the speed of everyone around them if everyone had the automotive self driving cars.
Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
I would let the car drive for me. As a very busy person I find this opportunity very beneficial by creating more time for other task to be done rather than sit behind the wheel.
Interview 4:
Do you see a need for a self driving car?
I feel that their is a huge need for self driving car. So many people die from cars every year when in many cases it was human error. My friend was killed by a drunk driver accident because the guy could not see straight and was texting while driving.
Would you trust a self driving car?
At this point I trust technology more than humans when it comes to car. There is so many pieces that go into making a car as it allowing it to drive itself can only make it safer.
What are you worries about a self driving car?
If the car technologically fails will the car just come to an immediate stop or will it keep driving until it hits something. If it keeps driving then I would have to reconsider how I feel about self driving cars. Losing someone from a car accident just makes car decision a lot harder now.
Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
I would want to drive myself or miss driving. I had how time consuming a car is. With a self driving car I can get more naps in or get more school work done in between drives.
Interview 5:
Do you see a need for a self driving car?
Yes, because it allows many people who cant drive due to a disability and those who are bad at driving to get around allowing for safer roads.
Would you trust a self driving car?
Yes, because it is more aware than people. People face many distractions such as texting and driving which has become the number one reason of deaths in cars.
What are you worries about a self driving car?
What happens if it malfunctions computers due so what's to say the car won't and if it does then will the car just stop immediately or will it crash into something.
Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
I would possibly miss driving but would ultimately love the idea of a car that can drive for me.
5)Summarize what you find. Given your interviews, what do you know about the opportunity that you didn't know before?
I was actually shocked at how many people actually would enjoy self driving cars. As they have not been produced for people to purchase yet you think more people would be skeptical. What I found is that people actually trust technology more than human power. Most people felt the reson cars were so dangerous is because of the person driving not the car itself.

Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends
Economic Trend
economic trend for veterinarians are looking good. There is a need for veterinarians as jobs are opening. There is also a large sum of people looking for veterinarian jobs.
A) https://atwork.avma.org/2017/12/20/veterinary-economics-a-bright-forecast-for-2018/
B) The U.S. is running short on workers requiring companies to lack in numbers and either stay the size they are or close. Families and people with disabilities buy dogs for fun and sometimes to get around. There is always a want for animals which means the U.S. needs veterinarians. Many jobs are being replaced by computers lucky veterinarians have not been replaced by computers yet.
C) Everyone who has an animal's seeking medical treatment, check-ups, day care, night stays, and shots.
D) I had more difficult finding the trends of veterinarians because there is more of a constant need for veterinarians. Just under two years ago there was a huge want for veterinarians and people were getting jobs fast. Since then the industry has been fine but not needing as many workers constantly joining the workforce.
Why did you see the opportunity:
I chose to look at the economic trend of veterinarians because it related to my opportunity from last week. In order for all the dogs to stay healthy and for them to attend the school everyday, the dogs will have to be all caught up on their shots and may need medicine when the get sick or injured.
SharpSpring is a growing marketing automation company located in Gainesville, FL. They have potential to be the number one network automotive agency.
A) I recently got an internship and realized how fast this company was changing not just internally but externally as well. The company really started booming in 2015.
B) As we get more and more technologically advanced more and more companies are becoming online based or online and in person stores. With that being said advertising has started online. SharpSpring is like other networking automotive company but sells at a cheaper price. It is currently the newest emerging company coming in as the fourth most used marketing site.
C) Agency wanting to better market their companies so that they get better sales and more involved customers. Also good for people who want to post on multiple media sites at the same or scheduled for different times.
D) Finding data to back somethings up can be difficult since the company is so new compared to the other top marketing firms. But when you look at the numbers and compare to the other companies that have been around since the early 2000's, it quite shocking. SharpSpring now has over 7,000 customers since opening.
Why did you see the opportunity:
I started working at SharpSpring in August, since then I have seen how much this company to grow. They started a new idea where they are going to have provide lunches for agencies in attempt for them to use our platform. The company is very modern and constantly staying up with today's trend.
Regulatory Changes
Red Tide
A) https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/state/new-florida-laws-that-go-into-effect-july-1-2019
B) The red tide is increasing harming the waters in south Florida yearling. Millions of fish can be found along the seashore dead during red tide season. Not to much the people in the area affected have to smell all the dead fish. Until recently there was no to little funding to stop the red tide.
C) Everyone living in the affected area by the red sea, fishermen, people who eat fish.
D) The opportunity is difficult to exploit. People of the town do not want to spend their money on fixing the red tide and expect the government to use the taxes on fixing the water. This makes the process of cleaning and preventing the growth of the red tide take longer because the government is limited on what they can spend the tax money on.
Why did you see the opportunity:
I have been to south Florida when the red tide hits. There were hundreds of dead fish lined down the canal where many other homes were located. The smell and the color are obvious signs that something needs to happen to prevent the growth of the red tide.
Automotive Car

B) There has always been a dream that one day people could see flying cars and self driving cars. Growing up in school I remember reading about how automotive cars can be found on the road as early as 2015. Many companies now have lane assistance which is a version of self driving cars in a sense. The idea has been become a greater opportunity as we become more technologically advanced.
C) Everyone who is able to drive and wants a car to drive for them.
D) The opportunity is easier to exploit automotive cars because of how long the need has been around. Many people have wanted to see self driving cars.
Why did you see the opportunity:
Uber and Lyft are nothing driving services. People pay $150 for 30 minute rides or $9 for a ride down the road. The companies are trying to find a way to make more marginal profit. Uber and Lyft found that there was a way for them to make more money by having these self driving cars.

Identifying Local Opportunities
Title: Man, 53, charged in girl’s molestation
The link to the article: https://www.gainesville.com/news/20190913/man-53-charged-in-girls-molestation
A description of the story, in your own words:
This is an awful story but is serious and is appropriate to address. This 53 year
old man, Micheal Ridlon, had been raping a child for over four years. She had
been quite until she could no longer take it. To make things even worse when
this all started the female was only 10 years old. His bond has posted for
$500,000.
A description of the problem presented in the story:
The problem is clearly addressed. There was man who was raping a ten year old girl. That girl
will never be ok again. She has to deal with being rapped for four years by a way
older man.
A description of who has the problem:
The man has a problem. When this sexual assult started he
was over five times her age. Someone has to have real issues or was raised
poorly for something like this to happen. Something must have really hurt him
growing up to make him think this was ok to be doing for over four years. The
other problem is this 14 year old girl now has to hold this with her for the
rest of her life.
Title: Tropical
system could affect Florida this weekend
A description of the story: There is a tropical storm
forming near the Bahamas. As if the Bahamas have not been affected enough by hurricane
Dorian. Lucky this storm is not as big as Dorian was especially at this time as
it passes over the Bahamas.
A description of the problem:
The problem is once a natural disasters starts to occur it
can kill many. There were videos of people being washed away during hurricane Dorian.
Natural disasters can be awful leaving homes in pieces and many left dead.
who has the problem:
The storm looks as if it only going to slightly effect
Florida as of right now. This could change very quickly as tracking a hurricane
can be difficult.
Title: Death toll in Brazil hospital fire rises to 11
Link:
A description of the story: There was a fire that started in
the hospital. While trying to get people out of the hospital during the fire
some were not saved fast enough. Reports say their were almost 100 patients transferred
following the fire. As these patients waited to transferred they sat on bed and
wheelchairs outside of the hospital. Four fire fighters were also hospitalized
after the fire. Many of the visitors wanted to get to their loves ones and help
them because they required specific help when being moved.
A description of the problem:
There were four fire fighters hospitalized during a fire.
They are recovering and should be ok but were still needing medical assistance
which can put a toll on your body. There were also 11 people in the hospital
already fighting for their lives. Those 11 sadly passed away during the firer
and have left their families without being able to say another goodbye.
who has the problem:
The problem is with the hospital in Brazil, Brazil itself,
and the loved ones who lives were taken from this accident.
Title: Discovery of WWII diary revives a Florida widow’s
trauma
Link:
A description of the story:
A former U.S. military diary was found and examined. It held
everything about the war that Harry Glixon, had seen and been affected by. He
wrote about how bad the food was, how the day was going, but then things took a
twist. He started writing about the war and all the graphic things he saw. From
dead mangled bodies to how crazy he was going in his mind. He was reployed time
and time again wearing down on his mental health.
A description of the problem:
Harry Glixon had awful post trimitic stress disorder. It
became so bad that it made his relationship so unhealthy when he returned. His
wife talks about how he was never the same after returning from war. He
was good man but was never the same
person she originally married.
who has the problem:
Harry had to deal with his PTSD which can be just as hard for
a loved one to deal with. When Lorraine saw Harry struggle it took a toll on
her. Not only was she sad for him, it became sad for her that this is what her
life had come too.
Title: UF Preview costs exceeded state limit
Link:
A description of the story:
Since 2007 students have been charged at least three times
the amount the state allows. UF says that not all parts are mandatory when
there are documents students have shared where UF stated preview was mandatory.
It has been over a decade of students being overcharged for preview. Apparently,
UF offers a less expensive preview which many students did not know was even an
option. Everyone thinks preview is a good idea but these issues should not be occurring
college is expensive enough.
A description of the problem:
Many students go into college debt and are struggle to get
by as is. Students now a days are paying up to five times the amount on preview
then legally allowed by the state.
who has the problem:
Students who suffer to get by in college are affected the most.
These students are forced to spend yet more money on college before they get
there. Once they arrive they have to get dorm/living supplies. After they have
paid for all that then then have to by textbook for their classes. Between these
three things alone and how much UF charges for preview that’s over a thousand
dollars each family has to spend. If the students’ parents cannot afford this
then the student will face student loan debt for a long time.
Forming an Opportunity
1.
Belief: Mental health is becoming a growing
issue especially affecting the teenagers of today. Schools should do more to teach
about and be more aware about mental health. What I thought would be a good
idea was to integrate learning with dogs. Dogs are left at home all day waiting
for the moment when someone opens the door. People would be given a schedule
where once a week the students would be given 15 minutes to play with the dogs making
both the student and the dog more happy. The dogs would have to be trained therapist
dogs and be dog friendly to be in the program.
2.
Unmet needs: Not all schools require students to
take a mental health class let alone even a health class.
Need: Students need this program the most
as they are still young and developing. Families today do not eat dinner
together like when they used to. Now a days the parents will eat at the table
while the kids are on their phone or even sitting in the living room watching
tv.
Originated: The need has always been a problem
since we do not know how to understand brains fully yet. Since the 90’s after
the first major school shooting in Columbine I feel that mental health has exponentially
gotten worse.
What is in place now: The only things some
school has are one or two therapy dogs that a teacher or staff needs. There is a
long process for that to even occur. Some schools have talked about creating
mental health classes but as a country nothing has been put in place. Some schools
have a health class but does not go into much detail about mental health.
Does it exist: This opportunity exist but
on a much smaller scale. Most schools do not have service dogs and if they do there
have no more than a couple of dogs. There needs to be enough dogs that they are
not scared of the thousands of students that would see them every day.
3.
Andrew Scout: High school student in Orlando,
FL. I chose to use Andrew because he went to my high school where we have a
therapist dog. He is also a high school student which is where I think these
dogs should be placed.
4.
Nature of need: To improve mental wellbeing around
school. To promote a welcoming and more safe environment. Many students skip
school because there are scared of what is going to happen to them at school. Having
these dogs can allow people to feel safe and bond with other classmates.
How often is this need needed: For this to
be beneficial I think the dogs would need to be in school every weekday. With a
school as big as ours not everyone will be able to see the dogs everyday so a
schedule would need to be made as you (Daryl) said. The dogs would then be left
home alone less.
How long has the need been needed: The idea
has been needed for years now. Ever since suicide and killings have started to
rise in numbers there should have been an idea to deal with mental issues. When
the idea of letting dogs in school started they should have started with idea
allowing multiple dogs getting visited by the students throughout the day.
When did they become aware of this need: I
feel as if this need is still growing. Mental health has been a discussion on the
news for years now. It is getting a lot more attention now and people are
trying to come up with an idea on how to improve others mental health.
Why should we address this idea: We need to
address this idea because so many people have died from mental health now a
days. Whether it is from someone killing themselves or someone who is mentally
ill and goes killing others.
How is it currently addressed: Within my school
mental health is not addressed. As he stated earlier they have issues with
getting students to show up to school. Students are choosing to stay home rather
than go to school and face their bullies or deal with their issues.
How is the current solution working: Based
on us having a service dog and everyone loves it, the idea works well. The problem
with the idea is that there is not enough dogs. Many people struggle to visit
or be allowed to pet the dog. He is golden retriever that runs around
brightening everyone’s day.
5. I learned that with how big schools are they
would require a lot of dogs. Having too little of dogs could make the dogs
scared and not want to be visited by that many people. If there are lots of dogs
then people could take some on a bathroom walk while some others play fetch in
the grass. People can do different things to be entertained by a dog but always
have a smile when they see a friendly dog just wanting someone’s attention.
3.
Jennifer Garcia: Jennifer is a high school
teacher who teaches freshman and sophomore English. She is relevant because she
is a teacher who works within a high school, a perfect place to try out the
idea.
4.
Nature of need: Since I have started teaching my
student have seemed to grow more and more away from their families. I have
students come in crying because they have no one to talk to. Some are hiding
the abuse from their parents while some suffer from not seeing their parents
because they work so much.
How often is the need needed: I feel that often
times now I have to take days off of class just to talk to my students. We have
a class called Peer Counseling where students get to speak about their life and
the rest of the class supports them. The class has done many wonders and I feel
that having dogs in school could also make an impact to improve mental health.
How long has the need been needed: Since
about five years ago students have started to get out of control. It is as if
their mind is making the decisions for them and it’s for a temporary fix that
in the end hurts them even more. If families aren’t going to take the time to
be together then their needs someone to deal with these students mental health.
When did they become aware of the need: I
feel as if our school did not become aware of the need until recently. Three
years ago we got our first dog. The dog was huge hit, he helped out of staff
member get around while also being a mascot for the school.
Why is the need necessary: The need is necessary
because if something does not change more and more teenagers mental health is
going to get worse.
How is it currently addressed: Within our
school we have a dog. We want to get more but don’t have the staff to have
multiple dogs currently.
How is the current solution working: The
currently solution we have works in a way. The idea is great and there, but there
is a lack of dogs. With only one dog there is a limit on how many people can
visit it at a time. If there were more dogs then more students needs could be met.
5.
I learned that there can’t just be a bunch of
dogs brought into a school. There would have to be more staffing which means a schools
would need to budget that into their money. Some schools may not be able to afford
this process at first but if it is found effective then it could be mandatory
in all schools one day.
3. Sarah Heart: Sarah Heart is a mother of four
and has two kids currently in high school. Kevin is in eleventh grade while his
brother Cole is a freshman. She is relevant because she has children in school.
4. Nature of need: The nature of this need
honestly works on both sides. We have two dogs ourselves and I hate leaving
them home alone. Not only does it give them time to break something, but if we come
home late they may have gone to the bathroom in the house. Having my dogs at
school with my kids could also brighten my kids day seeing his pet walk around
school.
How often is this need needed: This need
should be used every day.
How long has this need been needed: This hasn’t
been needed until recently. In school we never talked about mental health but had
normal conversations amongst our friends. Since phones have come out people have
become a lot less connected.
When did they become aware of this need: I
did not become aware until my child came home one day crying. It was two weeks
into high school and my son got laughed at because he spilt a drink as if he
peed himself. Since then he has been self-conscious and not wanting to go to school.
Why did they become aware: I am involved in
my kids life and want them to succeed in any way possible. I know I cannot go
to school with them but I still worry about them. Having the dogs at school could
make my kids more comfortable and feeling at home.
How is it addressed: I do not know of any
program in my kids school that improves their mental health. There are counselors
that students can visit but sometimes that can take weeks to schedule.
How is the current solution working: The
current solution does not work. My kids have waited almost two weeks to see a counselor.
The only problem I see with the dogs would be they need a way to school.
5. Reflect: The biggest take away I got from this
conversation was at the end. The dogs would need a ride. For allergy reasons
they cannot ride the bus. That being said the dogs would have to be driven to school
with the student unless the teacher is bringing a dog. She also brought up the
fact that dogs have feelings. Being home alone can make them sad and to cause
accidents in the house.
7. Summary:
How much of the original idea
remains? Most of the original idea remains. There were adjustments that needed
to be made as well. Such as how the dogs are going to get to and from school and
who would watch the dogs.
Is the opportunity more accurate then
when started? In everything your opportunity should become more accurate. But
yes during this project my opportunity became more define on how affective it could
become.
Should entrepreneurs adapt to
customers feedback or stay firm in their belief? I think that an entrepreneurs
should also listen to their customers but not necessarily change everything they
bring up. If the customer is not heard they will become unhappy with the
product or service and ultimately give bad reviews.
