Testing the Hypothesis

1)People who are able to drive or need a ride somewhere are wanting automotive self driving cars so that they can make better use of their time and ride around feeling more safe ultimately putting their lives in the hands of the car.

2) Who: People able to drive and have a valid driver's license currently unsuspended.

What: There is not a car that is fully responsive yet. Some fail when it comes to technical issues while others fail to not crash. These are both very important factures.

Why: Due to technological issues making the cars not responsible enough to protect the life within it.

People who are able to drive or have a need to go somewhere in a self driving car but do not yet feel safe enough to ride in a car that has been technically approved to protect their lives while riding inside.

3)Testing the who: If uber and lyft got self driving cars then the audience would be anyone who person needing a ride somewhere.

Testing the what: Since there is not a current market for self driving cars each company has something lacking them to allow their car brand to be sold. This only includes the cars excessive to the people.

Testing the why: Some people do not trust the cars currently being produced. The idea that someone has to trust a car with their life is frightening to some.

4) Interview 1:
Do you see a need for a self driving car?
No, we are fully capable and should not trust technologically. It encourages laziness and we need to be productive as humans.

Would you trust a self driving car?
No, because it is unpredictable and would not rely on it because it is scary.

What are your worries about a self driving car?
Any malfunctions of the computer system.

Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
Yes I would prefer driving but if I did get a self driving car I would not miss driving to much but would miss it a little.

Interview 2:
Do you see a need for a self driving car?
Yes, as technology advances so should we. Everyone relies on technology already.

Would you trust a self driving car?
Yes I would trust it to brake and speed up but there is still room for human error.

What are your worries about a self driving car?
Getting used to not being in control of the car.

Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
I would miss driving a lot I would fall asleep.

Interview 3:
Do you see a need for a self driving car?
Yes, in this day and age we are very busy and we do not have enough time to get things done throughout the day. If the car did the driving the the person inside can utilize their time on something else more important.

Would you trust a self driving car?
As more technological advanced the cars get the more I would trust them. If the new norm was to have self driving cars then it would be a lot safer.

What are you worries about a self driving car?
I feel a lot safer with self driving cars. Humans make errors more often than computers due. Having self driving cars would promote safer driving and control the speed of everyone around them if everyone had the automotive self driving cars.

Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
I would let the car drive for me. As a very busy person I find this opportunity very beneficial by creating more time for other task to be done rather than sit behind the wheel.

Interview 4:
Do you see a need for a self driving car?
I feel that their is a huge need for self driving car. So many people die from cars every year when in many cases it was human error. My friend was killed by a drunk driver accident because the guy could not see straight and was texting while driving.

Would you trust a self driving car?
At this point I trust technology more than humans when it comes to car. There is so many pieces that go into making a car as it allowing it to drive itself can only make it safer.

What are you worries about a self driving car?
If the car technologically fails will the car just come to an immediate stop or will it keep driving until it hits something. If it keeps driving then I would have to reconsider how I feel about self driving cars. Losing someone from a car accident just makes car decision a lot harder now.

Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
I would want to drive myself or miss driving. I had how time consuming a car is. With a self driving car I can get more naps in or get more school work done in between drives.

Interview 5:

Do you see a need for a self driving car?
Yes, because it allows many people who cant drive due to a disability and those who are bad at driving to get around allowing for safer roads.

Would you trust a self driving car?
Yes, because it is more aware than people. People face many distractions such as texting and driving which has become the number one reason of deaths in cars.

What are you worries about a self driving car?
What happens if it malfunctions computers due so what's to say the car won't and if it does then will the car just stop immediately or will it crash into something.

Do you think you would rather drive yourself and or miss driving?
I would possibly miss driving but would ultimately love the idea of a car that can drive for me.

5)Summarize what you find. Given your interviews, what do you know about the opportunity that you didn't know before?

I was actually shocked at how many people actually would enjoy self driving cars. As they have not been produced for people to purchase yet you think more people would be skeptical. What I found is that people actually trust technology more than human power. Most people felt the reson cars were so dangerous is because of the person driving not the car itself.

  1. This is a fun idea. I never would have thought to use this for the class, mostly because it seems to me that it would be too costly and time consuming to develop the product and still hope to gain a profit within a reasonable time frame. I am interested that more of your interviewees did not mention the safety benefits of self-driving cars as that seems to be the most beneficial aspect of this technology.
